Idle Avalanche Could Drop In Standings Because Of The Loser Point

Just a quick note that you might want to keep an eye on the Calgary - Nashville game tonight, as it will have a direct impact on where the Avalanche will land in the standings. Currently, the Avalanche are in 3rd, but that could change in a hurry. The Phoenix - Edmonton game will become a factor if Calgary ends up with at least a point this evening.

IF Nashville wins tonight in regulation, the Avalanche stay in 3rd. This would be the option to root for.

IF Calgary wins tonight in regulation, Calgary moves into 3rd and Colorado drops to 4th. IF Phoenix gets at least a point as well, Colorado would drop to 5th.

IF the Calgary - Nashville games goes to OT, regardless of who wins, Calgary moves into 3rd, Nashville would pass Colorado (based on "most wins" tiebreaker) and the Avs would be in 5th. IF Phoenix gets at least a point as well, Colorado would drop to 6th.

Short version: We want Nashville and Edmonton to win in regulation. If both games are 3-point games -  regardless of the outcome -  the Avalanche fall to 6th.

Oh, and if Vancouver wins tonight, the Avalanche will be just 1 point ahead of the 8th-place Los Angeles Kings. Crazy, crazy conference.
