Starting off with the Bleacher Report
With just 15 points on the season to this point, the Colorado Avalanche may not look like much at first glance. However, make no mistake about it, this is a team that's going to be reckoned with in the coming seasons.
Doesn't have to do with the Avs, but something that surprised me anyway. Buffalo earns its first win at home.
The Buffalo Sabres secured their first home win of the NHL season on Saturday night with a 3-2 overtime triumph over the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals.
The Edmonton Journal looks around at the going ons in the league.
Kerry Fraser’s memories of his refereeing days — The Final Call — is doing brisk business. He sold 365 books in 10 minutes before a book signing in Sarnia. People apparently lined up for 2-1/2 hours to get them personalized. He was co-host with Rod Black on Live From Wayne Gretzky’s on Saturday afternoon in Toronto, prior to the Maple Leafs game.
Ryan O'Byrne something I didn't realize: Stats for first game with the Avs.
In his Avalanche debut on Friday, O'Byrne's ice time was 24:51, the most of his NHL career. He led the team with six hits and blocked four shots.
Another O'Byrne quote about the trade.
"I haven't been traded since my second year of junior, so it's a different feeling, obviously," O'Byrne told the Canadiens web site. "At the same time, it's an opportunity for me to play. We have a pretty deep defence corps here in Montreal and I haven't been playing much. I'm a young defenceman and you have to play. That's the bottom line."
Another tiny little article that mentions that the Avs have had injury problems.
In all, the Avs were without 10 players before Friday, including three top-six forwards.
