Going to try something a little different and keep a running tally of what's going on...
7:37pm: Opening puck drop: Here we go! Let's hope the Avs remember to play a whole 60 minutes tonight. I hate doing recaps when they lose. It's depressing. Craig Anderson is in net for the Avalanche tonight. Pavelec in net for Atlanta Thrashers.
Forward lines:
Brandon Yip - Paul Stastny- David Jones
Tomas Fleischmann - Matt Duchene - Milan Hejduk
Daniel Winnik - Ryan O’Reilly - Kevin Porter
Cody McLeod - Phillipe Dupuis - Greg Mauldin
Defensive pairings:
John-Michael Liles and Ryan O`Byrne
Kyle Quincey and Kevin Shattenkirk
Matt Hunwick and Adam Foote
7:41 Porter brings it over the line with Winnik. Would have been nice, but they didn't do much with it.
7:42 Thrashers announcer talking about all the injuries. Mentioning T.J. Galiardi's injuries. It's nice to see that people still remember him.
7:43 (16 minutes left in the first) Yip had a nice shot, the fact that he is on the first line after being a healthy scratch is a little odd, but seems to work so far.
7:45 (15:30 left in the first) Third line has a great chance, great cycles...nice play by the Avalanche. Atlanta takes in into the Avs zone, down low Bergfors scores.
14:23 Foote trying to get that from him but the Thrashers are up 1-0. On their first shot, might I add.
13:49 left in the first the Avs go onto the Power Play. The Avs are 8th in the league on the PP. Thrashers killed it off, no problems. The Avalanche didn't even get a shot on net.
Colorado has 4 guys with 10+ goals. This is tied for first in the NHL.
1:48 left in the first: 16-4 Shots on net in favor of the Avalanche.
End of the first. Colorado down 1-0.
Second period opening face off!
With 16:23 left in the second the Avs go on power play... only to let a short handed chance happen.
15:21 Tomas Fleischmann works his butt off and the Avs score. Okay, he's starting to be forgiven for wearing the number 14. Ave tie it up at 1. This is Fleischmann's first goal in the Avalanche uniform.
11:30 left in the second, Avalanche back on the Power Play. With a minute fifteen left in the power play Paul Stastny gets called for tripping.
8:59 left in the second and Greg Mauldin scores a Shorthanded goal!!! Mauldin goes from backhand to front and does a beautiful job of it. This is actually the first shorthanded goal that Atlanta has given up all year. Love that it was Mauldin, he hasn't done much in the last few games. When Stastny comes out of the box he almost scored too...
Whenever the announcers mention Stewart I get a little excited, and then feel sad once I realize they are talking about Anthony Stewart, and not Chris Stewart.
5:35 Daniel Winnik gives the puck away in the Atlanta zone... not pretty.
4:48 Atlanta Thrashers tie it at two. Nice offensive rush (by Atlanta), Little scores, Stewart was there in case it needed a little bit of help to get in the net.
Since Atlanta tied it up... it's been all Atlanta. Colorado just hasn't been skating! At the end of the second the score is tied 2-2.
And third period begins! Something good is going to happen... I can feel it!
Right off the faceoff the Avalanche take it into the Atlanta zone. Beautiful work by Matt Duchene, goal by Milan Hejduk!
19:16 left in the third, Avalanche lead the Thrashers 3-2.
12:52 left in the third... Wow, thought Atlanta was going to score there... Andy can stretch those legs!!!
Shattenkirk has gotten under Kane's skin. He is always going and trash talking Shattenkirk.
8:37 Avalanche going on the Penalty Kill
I've been informed that Hejduk is out for the remainder of the game with a sore/ injured groin. Not good. Thrashers announcers haven't mentioned it.
6:37 left power play killed.
1:48 Andy has a Heck of a save on Eager!
1:24 Avalanche going on the power kill... again. Dupuis heads to the Sin Bin. Atlanta pulls their goalie.
38.3 seconds left Empty net goal by Stastny (on a nice play by Adam Foote). 4-2 score.
19.1 seconds left Kyle Quincey definately told Kane to "F' off", but not so nicely. Adam Foote is getting angry. Trying to get a piece of Kane. There are a bunch of penalties given of this play... coincidental penalties to Kane (10 minute misconduct) and Foote.
Avalanche win this game! First win on this road trip for them. Here's hoping the Avs can take this game and keep winning. They had some really good, solid work in this game. It wasn't a complete game, they certainly got deflated after one of the Thrashers goals... but they fought back and came out on top. Next game the Avalanche take on the Washington Capitals.
