Tyler Arnason Update

Somewhere last week, I mentioned there was a rumor that Tyler Arnason had been released by his KHL team, Dinamo Riga. Unfortunately, the only reference I could find to this on the web was in Latvian and the google translation of said page was rough at best. (Arnason's reaction to this shocking news is pictured below).

I am pleased to report that I have been in contact with Jared Grellet who covers the Dinamo for the Baltic Reports site. Jared was kind enough to assure me that Arnason has not been let go. Apparently, Arnason and / or teammate Martin Kariya were spotted at an airport, sparking a rumor that the two were leaving the team. It was just a rumor, however, and Arnason is still with the club. When informed that he was still with the club, Arnason had the following reaction:

The KHL is currently on a one-month hiatus for the Olympic break. In case you think the NHL schedule is odd, each team will have just 3 regular season games remaining before the playoffs. Imagine being out of playoff contention and having to take a month off before coming back to play in 3 meaningless games. Arnason's club (which has 14 players on the Latvian Olympic team) is currently in 8th spot and locks up a playoff berth with just one win in those last 3 games.
