Over the final 10 games of the season, the Avalanche will meet up with all of their potential first round opponents (unless Nashville makes a late run to the top four). Last night's "playoff preview" wasn't very playoff-like. Perhaps the team will find their missing intensity tonight, especially considering that the Avalanche will play the Sharks in the opening round if the standings stay as they are. Of course, if the Avalanche do win tonight, they'll jump up to 6th - so it's still early to start thinking about seeds.
The Avalanche lost last night, but with the Flames laying down to Boston yesterday the Avs' need just 4 wins to clinch a playoff spot. They'll need to play better than they did last night to make that happen, though, from the goaltending on up to the first line.
The other big game to keep an eye on today is the Flames at the Capitals (3pm eastern). The Flames need to win out to get to 97 points, and that's probably what it will take to get in. And if you need some extra entertainment this afternoon, I'll be a guest on another blog talk radio gig, this time for JabberHockey. I'll be talking the Avs and probably once again teaching folks how to pronounce "Carignan", so it's a can't miss.
Paul has the recap tonight.
