Colorado Avalanche 2010 NHL Entry Draft – Day Two Recap

The Avalanche made seven selections on day two of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in Los Angeles. The Avs did make a few transactions in order to make some of these selections.

  • Colorado traded the 47th overall pick to the Los Angeles Kings for the 49th overall pick and the 109th overall pick.
  • Colorado traded the 77th overall pick and the 109th overall pick for the 71st overall pick.
  • Colorado traded a 2011 third round pick for the 95th overall pick in the 2010 draft.

CALVIN PICKARD

(selected 47th overall)

Born: April 15, 1992

Position: Goaltender

Catches: Left

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 195

09-10 Team: Seattle (WHL)

Hometown: Winnipeg, MB

Calvin Pickard was the number one ranked North American goaltender by NHL Central Scouting Services. He is the younger brother of Nashville Predators prospect, Chet Pickard. The younger Pickard finished sixth overall in the Western Hockey League with a save percentage of 0.914. While not a big goaltender, Pickard is described as playing big. He is on the radar to be one of Canada's goaltenders for the 2011 IIHF U20 Championships in Buffalo, NY.

MICHAEL BOURNIVAL

(selected 71st overall)

Born: May 31, 1992

Position: Left Wing

Shoots: Left

Height: 5'11"

Weight: 179

09-10 Team: Shawinigan (QMJHL)

Hometown: Shawinigan, PQ

Michel Bournival was ranked 75th for North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He finished third in team scoring with 24 goals and 38 assists in 58 games. Already a solid two-way player, Bournival is extremely strong and has a great work ethic.

STEPHEN SILAS

(selected 95th overall)

Born: June 26, 1992

Position: Defenseman

Shoots: Left

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 183

09-10 Team: Belleville (OHL)

Hometown: Georgetown, ON

Stephen Silas finished 60th overall in NHL Central Scouting rankings for North American skaters. He finished second in team scoring with 49 points in 66 games. Silas, already a solid puck-moving defenseman, received top-four minutes with the Belleville Bulls in all situations.

SAMI AITTOKALLIO

(selected 107th overall)

Born: August 6, 1992

Position: Goaltender

Catches: Left

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 174

09-10 Team: Ilves JR (Finland-JR)

Hometown: Tampere, Finland

Sami Aittokallio was the top ranked European goaltender by NHL Central Scouting. In 23 games, he finished with a goals against average of 3.20 and save percentage of 0.899. However, in nine post-season contests, Aittokallio posted a goals against average of 2.26 and save percentage of 0.925.

TROY RUTKOWSKI

(selected 137th overall)

Born: April 29, 1992

Position: Defenseman

Shoots: Right

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 208

09-10 Team: Portland (WHL)

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

Troy Rutkowski was ranked 44th for North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He recorded 12 goals and 31 assists in 71 games for the Portland Winterhawks, which was 18th among Western Hockey League defensemen. Rutkowski has solid poise with the puck and offensive tools, but also has a strong commitment to improving his defensive game.

LUKE WALKER

(selected 139th overall)

Born: February 19, 1990

Position: Right Wing

Shoots: Right

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 184

09-10 Team: Portland (WHL)

Hometown: Castlegar, BC

Luke Walker was not in the final rankings for NHL Central Scouting. While Walker is a dual-citizen, he competed in the World U20 tournament for the United States this past January. Due to his age, Walker is eligible to play in the American Hockey League next season.

LUKE MOFFATT

(selected 197th overall)

Born: June 11, 1992

Position: Center

Shoots: Right

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 187

09-10 Team: USA U-18 (USHL)

Hometown: Paradise Valley, AZ

Luke Moffatt finished 95th among North American skaters according to NHL Central Scouting. With the US National Team Development Program, Moffatt emerged as a solid checker. He will continue his development with the University of Michigan this fall.
