Preseason Game 2 Recap: Kings 4 Avalanche 2

The Los Angeles Kings knocked off the Avalanche last night, dropping the Avs to 1-1 in games that don't matter. As with all Avalanche preseason games, this one was heavily marketed by not showing it on TV which makes these recaps a little difficult. From the box score and event summary it appears to have been a chippy affair, with two fights (David Koci vs Kevin Westgarth and Cameron Gaunce vs Jordan Nolan) and Adam Foote tangled with John Zeiler (the guy who gave him a concussion last year), getting a elbowing and roughing penalty in the skirmish. In all, the Avs had 14 penalties and gave the Kings 7 powerplay opportunities.

For the Avalanche Philippe Dupuis and Kyle Quincey were the goal scorers (Quincey also had an assist), while Michael Handzus, Jason Williams, Zeiler and former Avalanche Brad Richardson scored for the Kings. Richardson's was the game winner. Craig Anderson allowed 1 goal on 18 shots and John Grahame allowed 3 on 24.

This is the 2nd straight game that the Avs were at a severe shot disadvantage. These games don't count...but being outshot by a 76-41 margin in the first two games is not exactly comforting.

The Avalanche are in action again on Friday when they visit the Dallas Stars.
