The Avalanche face off against the Modano-less Stars for the second time this preseason, in the Av's last home game before the real season finally begins and we can ditch these fake shenanigan games like a prom dress. But these trite little games do hold meaning for those lucky enough to still be battling for roster spots. And those fellas still have two more chances to impress Thursday in Dallas and Saturday in Vegas vs the Kings.

In the wake of Peter Mueller's disheartening injury, Ryan Stoa seems to be emerging as the favorite to snag the vacated spot. Sacco says it's not up to him, it's up to the players to decide who gets the spot. I had some fun with Mueller's misfortune this morning, but I really, honestly, feel wicked bad for the guy. It breaks my cold black heart. Get well Ferris.

Tonight's roster also looks more like what we could possibly expect to suit up Oct 7th vs the Blackhawks. Anderson and Budaj will man the crease and ball cap respectively. On D, Cumiskey returns from his groin injury to join Holos, Liles, Shattenkirk, Quincey, Cohen and Foote. Hannan and Wilson will get a breather - and I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson's breather is more of a tight-chested anxious pant as his spot on the team isn't 100% locked up at this point. The forwards tonight will be Duchene, Dupuis, Yip, Stastny, Stoa, Winnik, O'Reilly, Galiardi, Olver, Jones, McLeod, Bordeleau (who, although perhaps borderline goonish, still looks like an upgrade over...what's his name.... Davey Kocheese or something? I already forgot about him). Stewart was out yesterday for a maintenance day and will not play tonight, which has Dater smelling something stinky.

Okay, DDC told me to make this short, and I already disobeyed, so I'll stop now while I'm already behind. Go Avs.

Listen live: Here or here, but (you gotta click on the tiny button on the right side once you get there).

Game time is 7pm MST.

And if anyone is interested, here's Melrose's take on the Northwest division. He like him some Avalanche. (tip o' the hat to the Reverend).
