Goodbye Kyle Cumiskey. Cumiskey traded to the Ducks.

During the Detroit vs Colorado game it was announced that Kyle Cumiskey has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks for Jake Newton and a conditional pick. If Cumiskey plays more than 45 games for the Ducks, Colorado gets a fifth round pick. If Cumiskey cannot earn that much ice time, the Avalanche will get a 7th round pick.

Newton, 23, is currently playing for Anaheim’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. The San Jacinto, Calif., native was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on March 17, 2010 after playing one season at Northeastern University in 2009-10.  He was selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team at Northeastern.

Kyle was drafted 222nd overall, by the Avalanche in the 2005 draft. Cumiskey was only able to play 18 games last year due to injury. He does have to pass a medical on Monday.

Jake Newton is, at 6 foot 3 and 200 pounds, a fairly big defenseman. He has also played in both the USHL All-Star game and USHL Second All-Star Team in '09 and in the NCAA (Hockey East) All-Rookie Team in '10.

Welcome to the Colorado Avalanche Mr. Jake Newton.
