The Lake Erie Monsters were eliminated tonight, falling to Manitoba 4-1 at home. The Monsters led 3-1 in the series, but lost game 5 2-0 and game 6 3-1. Tonight, the Monsters got the early lead with a 1st period goal by Jonas Holos. Sergei Shirokov tied it at the 16:21 mark of the 2nd (his 5th goal of the series). And then, midway through the 2nd, Manitoba scored 2 goals 55 seconds apart to pull to a decisive 3-1 lead in the game. They would add an empty-netter later to seal the deal.
It's a disappointing finish for sure, but congratulations to the Monsters for a solid season and their first taste of the AHL playoffs.
