Meet the Staff- Paul's Coffey

During the off-season, we've been getting to know you a bit more and have had awesome discussions because of this. Continuing today, you can learn more about the MHH staff through a series of questions.

What attracted you to hockey? Does your family have a passion for it, was it always the Avalanche that you liked?

I moved to Sedalia, CO in 1995. As the new kid in town with no friends, too young for a driver's license, and living up a remote dirt road in the hills, my best friend became ancient Zenith tube tv and the fuzzy Avs games broadcast on UHF channel 20 (or whatever it was). What started as a pathetic friendship turned into a beautiful love affair as the Avs won the cup that season and I was hooked.

(More after the jump)

What about MHH? How'd you find it, what kept you here? How'd you become part of the staff?  What is your favorite part of MHH?

I found MHH after years of aimless & angry internet drifting, searching for current and interesting Avs news. A more cyber-savvy friend found MHH and turned me on to it. I joined the staff when DDC put out a call for writers back in December 2009 or thereabouts. I competed with 9,574 other applicants in a gladiator style show down, where I severed many a head and drank the blood of weaker applicants. It got messy. Ultimately, only two other people applied and DDC hired all three of us: Derek, Dustin, and me.

What are you looking forward to the most about this up-coming season?
 The new additions!!

Who is your "sleeper" pick for the 2012 season?
I love Hejda. I think he's underrated and under-appreciated (not by our readers), and I think his presence will change the vibe and rep of our D in a glorious way. That being said, I think Galiardi will have a huge bounce back season if he can work his way out of the bottom 6.

What are some nicknames you go by?
My mom called me "Boo" and some friends use my first two initials "BC", but more than anything people always bastardize my last name (Shumway, not Coffey) into something annoyingly cuddly. Some of the best and worst bastardations: Shums, Shummy, Shummers, Shumsky, Shum-Shum, Shum-dogg (big in the 90's), and Shum-wow.

Your favorite player? Is there one guy that you could just watch for hours and not get bored?
Peter Forsberg. Foppa embodies everything that brought me to hockey. My wife says it's a man crush, and even though she may be right, that doesn't mean my love burns any less bright.

All Star weekend yay or nay?
 Would 'yay' a condensed version.

Your favorite hockey book?
I only burn books.

Outside of MHH, what's your favorite website?
I'm a monotheist. There is only MHH!

During the offseason what is your favorite thing to do?
Fantasize about line combos for the next season.

What is your favorite hockey movie?
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The thing you want to know most about another staff member?
The launch codes to Derek's sub.

Well, I'm afraid I can't help you much with the codes of Derek's sub. But I like that your answers were short and sweet. Does anyone else have questions for him?

Lappy has postponed getting permanent teeth so that he could be in a movie and dance with Megan Fox.

Hollywood director Judd Apatow searched the nation for a hockey player with no teeth for his latest film, and his hunt ended with a Philadelphia Flyers winger.

Also in other Lappy news, he'll be on CKAC radio this morning (follow the link to be able to listen live), the show will be starting at 7:30 am. It is a French interview.
