Lake Erie Monsters' training camp starts tomorrow

John Carrick, Owen Sound Attack

For some mysterious reason, I haven't heard any news yet about the Colorado Avalanche training camp. But I did hear that the Lake Erie Monsters start camp on Wednesday with 38 players invited to camp. The Monsters will have a couple of days of practices, two preseason games this weekend against the Grand Rapids Griffins in Toledo and then start their season on October 12th against Oklahoma City.

Here's a list of the Monsters campers. Those in bold are under contract with the Avalanche. Also, Gabriel Beaupre has been invited to camp; the Avalanche own his rights, but he is not currently signed. He is the only Avalanche draftee from the 2011 draft in camp with the Monsters this year...because he's the only one old enough (besides Gabriel Landeskog, who was not reassigned before the lockout). Duncan Siemens, Garrett Meurs and Dillon Donnelly all turn 20 after December 31st, so will be eligible to play with the Monsters next year. Similarly, Mitchell Heard is old enough to play in the AHL this year, but his fellow 2012 draftees will need to wait. Colin Smith can play next year, while Troy Bourke, Joseph Blandisi and Michael Clarke are still two years away from AHL eligibility.
