Pickard Stops 42 in Monsters 2-1 Win Over Admirals

Lake Erie rookie goaltender Calvin Pickard set a new career high on Friday, stopping 42 of the 43 shots he faced in the Monsters (7-3-0-0) 2-1 win over Milwaukee (3-5-0-0).

Luke Walker's shorthanded goal in the second period proved to be the game-winning tally for the Monsters, who picked up their third win in a row; all three of which have been by one goal. Bryan Lerg also scored for the Monsters; his sixth goal in as many games. Friday was the middle of three games in three days for Lake Erie this weekend, and second of a seven-game road swing for the team.

The Admirals struck first on the power play at 12:27 of the first period when Michael Latta scored on a rebound.

With 47 seconds left in the first period, Lerg batted in a rebound on the power play to tie the game at 1-1; his sixth goal of the season and sixth in his last six games. Geoff Walker and Michael Sgarbossa assisted.

Luke Walker gave the Monsters a 2-1 lead with a shorthanded goal when he swatted in the rebound from a Paul Carey attempt at 9:04 of the middle frame. The goal was Walker's third of the season.

After a scoreless third period, the Monsters would hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Pickard’s 42 saves marks a new season high for saves in a game by a Monsters goalie. Pickard is now 4-2-0. Jeremy Smith stopped 17 of 19 shots in the loss for Milwaukee; he is now 1-5-0.

The Monsters will finish their weekend three-in-three on Saturday night in Rockford at 8:00 PM Eastern. All the action can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
