With their win over the first place Americans (13-5-1), the Cutthroats (12-8-1) take over sole possession of third place in the Central Hockey League.
Brad Smyth extended his season-high point streak to eight games with a goal. Troy Schwab (four games) and AJ Gale (five games) also extended their respective point streaks. Denver has now won the first two games of their three-game road trip and is 7-1-1 in their last nine games.
Gale scored the first period’s only goal at 8:44 to give Denver a 1-0 lead with a slap shot from the right circle. Schwab and Joel Chouinard tallied the assists on Gale’s 13th of the season, tying him for the CHL lead. The goal also kept Gale at the top of the league’s scoring leaders with 28 points on the season.
In period two, Schwab found Smyth alone in the slot for a one-timer goal to make it a 2-0 lead. The goal was Smyth’s 12th of the season.
Jarret Lukin scored 1:35 into the third for the Americans’ only tally of the game. Both teams finished 0-for-3 on the power play.
Millan finished with 31 saves in the contest. Allen’s Steve Silverthorn took the loss with a 25-save night.
The Cutthroats close out their three-game road trip on Saturday when make their only visit of the season to the NYTEX Sports Centre to take on the Fort Worth Brahmas. Game time is set for 6:30 PM MST.
