The Colorado Avalanche added more depth for the Lake Erie Monsters today by signing defenesman Thomas Pock to a two-way, one-year deal worth $550, 000. Pock, 30, is from Klagenfurt, Austria, He went undrafted before signing a contract with the NY Rangers in 2004 after a collegiate career at University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Pock played 118 games over six years with the Rangers, registering 8 goals and 9 assists. During that time, he also saw some action in the AHL; in 195 games, he scored 23 goals and 89 assists for 112 points. He's been playing in Europe for the past three seasons, most recently with Modo of the Swedish Elite League. (I hear some punk is part of the Modo front office right now. I wonder if a couple of former teammates talked about the guy at all.)
Pock is most certainly slated for time with the Lake Erie Monsters. Another D signing like this really makes me wonder if Cameron Gaunce may be traded in a package deal soon. He certainly must be wondering a bit about what's going on with the Avalanche blueline and where he fits now.
