This week our series looking into which player wore which jersey number for the Quebec Nordiques and the Colorado Avalanche will feature numbers 48-52. Most of these have only a few players to chose from. The number 48 is no exception. There are only four men to have worn the number.
Max Middendorf (90): Max was drafted by the Nordiques in the 3rd round of the 1985 Draft. He would play a total of ten games in the NHL between 1987 and 1990. He only wore the number 48 during the 1990 season, in that season he played 3 games, and didn't get on the scoreboard. He was a -9. He would go on to play another 3 games in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers.
Scott Young (93-97): Scott was drafted by the Hartford Whalers 11th overall in the 1986 Draft. In March of 1992 Young made his way to Quebec for Bryan Fogarty. He would play 82 games in the 1993 season. In total Young played 359 regular season games between the Quebec Nordiques and the Colorado Avalanche. He finished with 113 goals, 134 assists, 112 penalty minutes. As for the post season? He played in 51 games, had 14 goals, 18 assists and 26 penalty minutes. He was part of the Colorado Avalanche 1996 Stanley Cup team.
Kyle Cumiskey (07-09) Kyle was drafted in the 7th round by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2005 Draft. The defenseman would play for Colorado until 2011, however, he only wore the number 48 until the end of the 2009 season. He appeared in 53 games, had 1 goal, 6 assists and 18 penalty minutes. He is now in the Anaheim system.
Matt Hunwick (11) Matt was drafted in the 7th round by Boston in the 2004 Draft. Hunwick was traded from Boston to Colorado for Colby Cohen in November 2010. Since then, the defenseman has played 84 games for Colorado. He has 3 goals, 3 assists and 24 penalty minutes.
