Avalanche announce final roster

After much anticipation and debate, the Avalanche roster for Saturday has been set.

Doug Pensinger

Here are the 23 players slated to either suit up or nacho up on Saturday's opening night game against the Minnesota Wild:

Forwards
PATRICK BORDELEAU
STEVE DOWNIE
MATT DUCHENE
MILAN HEJDUK "A"
DAVID JONES
CHUCK KOBASEW
GABRIEL LANDESKOG "C"
JAMIE MCGINN
CODY MCLEOD
JOHN MITCHELL
MARK OLVER
PA PARENTEAU
PAUL STASTNY "A"

Defensemen
TYSON BARRIE
JAN HEJDA
MATT HUNWICK
ERIK JOHNSON
SHANE O'BRIEN
RYAN O'BYRNE
RYAN WILSON
GREG ZANON
Goalies
JEAN-SEBASTIEN GIGUERE
SEMYON VARLAMOV

The roster holds the maximum number of players, so should Ryan O`Reilly sign before Friday, this list could still change. Given that he is in Russia, it's not realistic to think that a Friday or Saturday signing would result in him playing opening night. From all that I've read, it appears Olver making the team was never in question.

The team concluded four days of intense practice today in a week-long training camp designed to both evaluate players and get them back into playing shape. Tomorrow the team will participate in a closed, light skate at the Pepsi Center. Friday will see the team back at Family Sports Center in Centennial for a traditional practice.

The Avalanche face off against the Minnesota Wild at 7 pm MT. The team's home opener is against the Kings on Tuesday.
