As my wife is fond of saying...this shouldn't take long. We have just passed a very important milestone in our Who Wore It Best series. If you've been paying attention - and I know you are - you should be saying to yourself "hey, self, what happened to #56"? Well, in fact, over the 33 seasons this franchise has been in operation, none of the 445 players have been fond enough of the number 56 to wear it on the ice. Ditto for 61, 64 and most of the numbers from 66 to 99.
57 isn't exactly the most popular either. Only one member of the franchise has worn it and that would be George Parros who had all of 7 shifts with the Avalanche in 2006 after being claimed on waivers from the Kings. After 2 games with the Avalanche, he was traded to the Ducks with a 3rd rounder for a 2nd and 3rd round pick, with the 2nd eventually used on TJ Galiardi. In other news, is Parros the last guy the Avs claimed on waivers? Is there someone more recent that I'm forgetting?
One other former Avalanche has worn #57 in the NHL, but it wasn't for the Avs. Without looking it up, does anyone know who it is?
