Preview: Red Wings at Avalanche, Game 7

New, comments

The Avs (6-0-0) try to extend their perfect record against the Red Wings (5-2-0).

USA TODAY Sports

It's a night full of story-lines for the Colorado Avalanche and emotions are sure to run high as the red hot Avs prepare to take on their rival Detroit Red Wings on home ice for the only time this season. First off, Patrick Roy really, really, "dislikes" the Red Wings. The rivalry may be dead, but its probably a safe bet that Roy will be bringing a little extra to the locker room as he prepares his team for this on. Second, a win tonight would give the Avalanche a 7-0 record to start the season, their best since moving to Colorado. It would also give Patrick Roy sole possession of the record for best start to an NHL coaching career, passing his former rival Mario Tremblay.

The Avalanche squeaked out a win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, despite playing one of their weaker games in this young season. It will be interesting to see how the team responds and what adjustments Roy makes on the ice. The Red Wings meanwhile, are coming off a 2-1 home victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Henrik Zetterberg leads the Wings offense with an impressive 5 goals and 4 assists in his first 7 games. I'm sure DDC's fantasy hockey team is reaping the benefits.

Hopefully Avs fans will be loud and out in force tonight to drown out the Red Wings scum sure to infest the Pepsi Center tonight.

Lets go Avs.
