Kieran Millan promoted to Lake Erie. A precursor to an Avalanche trade?

The Avalanche have moved goalie Kieran Millan up from the Cutthroats to the Lake Erie Monsters. This wouldn't usually be front page material for MHH, mostly because we're lazy and not very thorough. But this one is a little eyebrow-raising.

The Monsters currently have four goalies on the roster - Calvin Pickard, Sami Aitokallio, Kevin Patterson and, now, Millan. Aitokallio has missed the last few games with a lower body injury, but Pickard and Patterson are apparently healthy; Pickard played the entire game on Tuesday. And, with Patterson up with Lake Erie, the Cutthroats are left with Casey Sherwood - who has not played for the Cutthroats this year - and recently signed Michael DiLorenzo, who was playing in the Federal Hockey League as of a few days ago.

There seems to be two logical conclusions here. One would be that either Pickard or Patterson is hurt and we just don't know it yet. Or, one of them is about to be moved. The Monsters will be playing three road games in the next three days, beginning tonight in Grand Rapids, and are in the middle of a tight playoff race so if they would need to be proactive to make sure they had to healthy goalies ready to go.

Of course, this could all be nothing. But stay tuned...

Or, this could all be because J.S. Giguere will be away from the team temporarily for personal reasons and Calvin Pickard has been recalled.
