Fish net win in Game 1 of President's Cup playoffs

Denver Cutthroats win their first ever playoff game, leading the first round series over the Allen Americans 1-0.

ALLEN, Tex. – The Denver Cutthroats jumped out to a 2-1 lead late in the second and Kieran Millan shut the door in period three to secure a game one win over the Allen Americans on Thursday night in front of 2,382 at the Allen Event Center.

The Cutthroats now lead the best-of-seven series, 1-0. Millan stopped 34-of-35 Allen shots in his first career playoff win.

Mikael Bedard scored the game-winner with 3:32 remaining in the second off a rebound. Aaron Dell took the loss for Allen, stopping 14-of-16.

The Americans opened up the scoring on the power play at 9:38, but Ben Wilson put the Cutthroats on the board with the first playoff goal in franchise history. Wilson’s slap shot from the left point found its way through traffic and in the back of the net with eight seconds left in the first, also on the power play.

Denver finished 1-for-4 on the man-advantage while the Americans went 1-for-7.

Including the regular season, the road team has won all four meetings between the Cutthroats and Americans this year.

The Cutthroats and Americans play game two of their series on Friday night at the Allen Event Center at 6:05 PM MST.

Three Stars:

1. Mikael Bedard (DEN)
2. Ben Wilson (DEN)
3. Bryce Anelowski (ALN)
