There are numerous reports this afternoon on Twitter that Joe Sakic is about to be named head of hockey operations for the Avalanche. This is the position recently held by Eric Lacroix. (After this article was posted, Lacroix's name was finally removed from the Avs' front office page). No formal announcements as of yet and what that might mean for the already-secretive front office organizational chart, but stay tuned and we'll provide updates as we see them. Or, at least, after we read them on the Eurolanche twitter feed.

Joe Sakic, you may recall, once played for the Avalanche as well as the Quebec Nordiques. In fact, he even served as the team's captain for a while AND played on two Stanley Cup teams.
