2nd round: Avalanche select Chris Bigras #32 Overall

The 6'0 187lbs. defenseman played major junior with the Owen Sound Attack.

Bruce Bennett

After passing on Seth Jones first overall, the Avs take a defenseman in the second in Owen Sound defenseman Chris Bigras. Bigras was the #14th ranked North American skater per Central Scouting. He's billed to be an excellent skater and is described by Hockey's Future as a smart player:

Bigras is one of this year’s most intelligent draft prospects -- both on the ice and off. He was able to maintain an A+ average in his high school studies, but most people in the league have been impressed with the way the blueliner thinks the game. He has great hockey sense and vision. Bigras can be counted on to make the smart, first pass, but will not impress you with flash. He’s poised, refined, and patient with the puck and has a game whose success is predicated on positioning.

In 68 games with Owen Sound this year, Bigras put up 8 goals and 30 assists. The Hockey Guys describe him similarly, as a positional, flow-controlling defenseman, and compare his game to that of Pittsburgh's Paul Martin.
