Clearly the Avs decided that one elite defenseman is nothing compared to five defenseman. In the 7th round, the Avalanche picked Swede Wilhelm Westlund, a 5'11" 185-pound blueliner. Westlund is said to be a well-rounded, two-way d-man, but he doesn't necessarily have any standout skills. Not likely that we'll see him in an Avs sweater outside of training camp. Currently, Westlund plays for Färjestad BK.
