First up, Matt Duchene is awesome. While at a charity auction he bid on a jersey to give to a child.

This story isn’t about money, it isn’t about fame and it isn’t about who you know; it’s about someone who not only gave his name to the most successful golf event in the history of Haliburton County, but also went two steps further donating an additional $2,000 to the flood relief and made an impact on a child’s life (and a father’s) that will remain with us as long as we live.

It’s a story about giving light back to a child and restoring her faith in herself. "Happy birthday Trista, from your friend Matt Duchene," her birthday card reads.

Sorry Chara, Trista has a new favourite player.

The Devils might have a new owner sooner than you'd think.

A person familiar with the negotiations says several groups are vying to buy the financially strapped New Jersey Devils, and a deal should be completed by the start of the NHL season.

The source spoke to The Associated Press Thursday and requested anonymity because the negotiations between Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek and the groups are still active.

Philadelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris heads one group trying to buy the three-time Stanley Cup champions and Calgary billionaire Bill Gallacher is another, although the source said multiple groups are bidding on the deal that includes the operating rights to the Prudential Center.

Selanne just keeps on going.

It is starting to look more and more likely that Teemu Selanne will be returning for a 21st season in the NHL, as he has been going through on-ice training in Finland.

Selanne, 43, hit the ice for an hour and a half today with a few other NHLers, reports Finnish newspaper Iltalehti.
