Avalanche sends D Stefan Elliott to Lake Erie Monsters

Ron Chenoy-US PRESSWIRE

The Avalanche announced another roster cut today, and it's Stefan Elliott. I find it interesting, but if he's not going to make the team on opening night, he needs training camp with the Monsters. Elliott seemed to struggle a bit in the Avs camp, so it's not really a surprise. Hopefully, he pulls a Kevin Shattenkirk and uses this as inspiration to become an offensive bad ass.

This leaves the roster as follows:

Semyon Varlamov G

Nick Holden D

Tyson Barrie D

Nate Guenin D

Erik Johnson D

John Mitchell C

Jan Hejda D

Matt Duchene C

Jamie McGinn LW

P.A. Parenteau RW

Cory Sarich D

Steve Downie RW

Matt Hunwick D

Marc-Andre Cliche C

Paul Stastny C

Guillaume Desbiens RW

Nathan MacKinnon C

Sami Aittokallio G

J.S. Giguere G

Alex Tanguay LW

Brad Malone C

Ryan Wilson D

Cody McLeod LW

Patrick Bordeleau LW

Andre Benoit D

Ryan O’Reilly C

Gabriel Landeskog LW

The team needs to drop 4 more players. With Sami Aittokallio being a given, we're left with three guys who are toss ups at this point. I suspect Guenin will be one of those guys, as will Desbiens. With Malone's play recently, he might stick. I'd say it's either him or Cliche that gets the boot on that third spot, though.  If Ryan Wilson goes on the IR officially, then only two need to go.
