The Jets fired their coach.
Claude Noel was fired as head coach of the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday morning, but general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff revealed the axe began swinging on Tuesday night.
Cheveldayoff told reporters at a press conference Sunday afternoon that he first contacted newly hired Jets head coach Paul Maurice on Tuesday after the team played poorly again, mustering only 14 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Lightning.
Steve Downie was a healthy scratch (there is a video that starts automatically).
Ever since his mysterious upper-body injury last month against Columbus, Steve Downie has not been the same player on the ice.
The passion hasn’t been there. He takes shifts off.
Flyers coach Craig Berube was a tad more specific.
“His intensity level isn’t high enough on a shift-to-shift basis,” Berube said Sunday morning at an optional skate in which Downie joined most of his teammates late.
The KHL had their all-star event. There are some highlighs that should be seen (video does not start automatically).
Since the highlight video is rather long, here’s a few highlights worth jumping to:
- decked out in a fish costume, player turns into human bowling ball (1:44)
- player fails to convert on high-speed hand-to-stick deke (3:25)
- Satan scores a beauty; enough said (5:50)
goalie wears muscle man costume during shootout (6:10)
