GDT: OPENING NIGHT! Hockey is here!

Doug Pensinger

Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Your favorite NHL stars return to action after the summer doldrums with a four-game slate of high-powered action.

Game 1: Montreal at Toronto 7:00pm in the ET

The traditional Canadian Opening Day matchup kicks off the season at the ACC, bonus points if you expand your French vocab with the Habs feed en Francais. Good New Canaan boy Max Pacioretti had 5 goals vs the hapless Leafs last year, the Leafs now counter by sending all their facepunchers to the Marlies in hopes of rolling 4 2nd lines.

Game 2: Philadelphia at Boston 7:30pm in the ET, live on NBCSN

Cap-challenged Boston hosts the oft-injured Flyers in this clash of Eastern Conference powerhouses. Throw out the records when these two get together and settle back for Doc, Edzo and Pierre at their finest.

Game 3: Vancouver at Calgary 10:00pm in the ET, 8:00pm Mountain

Fresh off the fail-year of Tortorella, the Canucks turn a new page and roll into Calgary riding the newest horse on the goalie carousel, Ryan Miller, and their new coach Willie Desjardins, fresh off a Calder Cup victory with the Texas Stars. The Flames and longtime friend of the show Bob Hartley counter with Mark Giordano and the first game of the Jonas Hiller era.

Game 4: San Jose at the World Champion Los Angeles Kings 10pm in the ET, 8:00pm MT on NBCSN

The Kings raise their Stanley Cup banner with the added benefit of rubbing the Sharks noses in it, as if winning games 4-7 in a First Round lolzover last Spring wasn't enough. If you can only watch one game on opening night, this is the pick to click.
