The beloved Monsters [4-6-2] return home after a quick trip to Grand Rapids on Wednesday to face "new" opponents the Adirondack Flames [6-6-1]. LEM really need to start accumulating points like right now, because December will be brutal. Tough schedule this weekend with a night game followed by an afternooner.

- The brother Komets continued their hot start to the season Wednesday morning with a shutout win in Kalamazoo, bolstering their record to 9-1. New additions Garrett Meurs and Gabe Beaupre are possible starters over the weekend at Toledo and tomorrow night at Cincinnati.

- Picks had a rough outing Wednesday night letting in 4 and getting yanked halfway through. Still showed a sense of humor about it, retweeting this article from TSN about it yesterday.

- Two rare occurrences happened on Wednesday for LEM. No one was listed on the NovaCare Rehabilitation Injury Report and the Monsters did not dress an obvious enforcer. Wow!

- Andrew Agozzino scored his 40th goal in a Monsters uniform Wednesday

Recap: Game 12 at GRG

Tomas Vincour made his season debut and Troy Bourke returned from a nasty facial injury from a high stick adding to the skill level of LEM's lineup against the Griffs. Unfortunately things didn't go their way early and the team found themselves down 4-0 midway through the 2nd. Calvin Pickard let in a couple of softies in the 1st then had two go in off his ass in the space of 3 minutes in the 2nd. Some bad luck, but he wasn't having a good night anyway. Roman Will came in and stopped all 8 shots he faced in the next 31 minutes.

The Monsters mounted a comeback in the 3rd with goals from Bourke, Big Sam Henley and Aggz but a Griffs ENG finished off chances of a comeback late and the game ended 5-3. While this is encouraging, the Griffs obviously let off the gas with the big lead and the outcome wasn't really in doubt save for a few minutes towards the end.

The Good

Sam Henley with his first pro goal and an assist

Aggz with his 40th with Lake Erie

The Bad

The Schumi/Boss/Smith line was matched up against the Pulkkinen line several times in the 1st and the result was 2 goals against. Not the matchup Chynoweth wanted probably, but you can't let that keep happening and it did yet again on the 3rd goal. Either change that line up or protect it, don't let it self-destruct.

The Flames have seen a lot of turnover already with 28 skaters dressed already and only 5 have played every game. Not that the Monsters have had a steady lineup either, but hopefully they can take advantage of the situation.

Roman Will came in to relieve Calvin Pickard on Wednesday and was solid but never really tested, facing only 1 shot in the first 11:14 and 8 total. Given the quick turnaround on Saturday, there's a good possibility he starts one of the games.

As I stated above, the Monsters did not dress an enforcer against GRG. I applaud Coach Dean's decision to roll 4 lines and it really paid off in the 3rd period with 2 of the 3 goals generated by the 4th line of Troy Bourke, Samuel Henley and Kenny Ryan. Maggio will still dress a lot, truculence is part and parcel of many AHL teams' strategies, but knowing that a more skilled lineup can be effective is a step in the right direction.

Most recent lines:

Aggz – Street – Vincour
Schumi – Boss – Smith
Carey – Hish – Rendulic
Bourke – Henley – Ryan

Stollery – Noreau
Siemens – Gervais
Corbett – Elliott

No games until next Friday & Saturday against Grand Rapids. Good opportunity for a solid week of practice and some time for the new additions to gel in the lineup.
