Alex Tanguay is out with some sort of facial fracture after taking an Alex Ovechkin puck to the cheek. Dennis Everberg slotted in, and then abruptly got rocked and suffered his own separated shoulder. When there's injuries in your roster-hood, who ya gonna call?
Lake Erie!
Here's what Earl predicted in this week's Monsters desk:
As far as a forward, there's no shortage of candidates and whoever it is will definitely dress and play. Street, Vincour, Sgarbossa, Smitty, Carey, Aggz, Hish, Rendulic, etc. I think Vincour still needs conditioning or he might be the call. Street or Aggz would seem to be strong candidates right now.
Nailed it bud.
Andrew Agozzino leads the Monsters in SOG with 34. He has 3 goals and 5 assists. He's been solid for Lake Erie for a while. It's about time he had a shot. Agozzino has 101 career points in 153 AHL games.
Ben Street has a goal and an assist, but has only played in 4 games since he started the season injured. He averaged 10 minutes a night last season in 13 games with the Calgary Flames.
Tomas Vincour also has a goal and an assist, in only 3 games due to his own injury. Vincour was originally acquired from the Stars organization in exchange for Cameron Gaunce, you'll recall. He has played 2 games with the Avalanche, back at the end of the Season of Not Winnin' for MacKinnon. In 119 AHL games he has 67 points; he played overseas last season.
Unfortunately, there is one thing that this means, and that is that Jesse Winchester might not be close. He's still on IR; his activation would send one of these other forwards down. Keep on healing that dome, friend.
What's missing?
Three forwards have been called up. With Ryan Wilson out for possibly ever and Brad Stuart still down with a hamstring injury, the Avalanche have six healthy defensemen and called up precisely zero. I absolutely hate this. Guys get hurt in pregame skates all the time. You carry scratches for exactly that reason. I don't think that needs to be explained.
Of course, Duncan Siemens is nursing a lower body injury of his own, but call up someone like Noreau to be that just-in-case nacho expert. It makes no sense to rely on one of your depth forwards (on this team meaning crappy forwards) to be an emergency defenseman.
But at any rate, welcome (back) to the NHL to these guys, good luck have fun. We're glad to have you, even if we're not so glad of the circumstances.
