Ah, the end of November. The snow is falling, the bells are ringing, and the Colorado Avalanche are already neck deep in injuries. Since none of us can keep up with who's on IR, here's a quick weekend run-down to get you back up to date.
Forwards:
Patrick Bordeleau (IR), Back - Underwent off-season back surgery. He's expected to return either mid-December or early January. Today, Roy confirmed that he's still weeks away.
Jesse Winchester (IR), Concussion - Suffered a concussion after awkwardly going into the boards during a Calgary pre-season game on September 30th. While he has been medically cleared to play, he's still suffering from vision issues. He has been skating in practice, but the Avs won't rush him back until he's ready. He's essentially been day-to-day for the past month.
Jamie McGinn (IR), Back - A back injury kept him out of training camp, but he returned in time for the season opener. On November 18th, he missed practice for another back-related concern and hasn't played since. There's now talk that he might need season-ending back surgery. He has 4 goals and 6 pts in 19 games this season.
Dennis Everberg (IR), Shoulder - During the Capitals' game on November 20th, a hit by Tom Wilson separated his shoulder. He is currently on the IR, but he might be back in time for Monday's game against Montreal. He has 1 goal and 3 assists in 13 games.
Ben Street, Hand - Street played the entire game against the Coyotes on November 25th, but he was not in the lineup against Chicago the next day. Somehow, he suffered a hand injury and is now off to see a hand specialist. This is after he suffered an undisclosed injury during training camp that held him on the Avs IR for a month.
John Mitchell, Leg - After missing the beginning of the season with concussion issues, Mitchell suffered a leg injury in practice on November 21st. He was able to play in last night's Dallas game, but didn't touch the ice beyond the first period. It appears he re-aggravated the injury and is expected to miss 7-10 days. In 17 games, he has 3 goals and 3 assists.
Marc-Andre Cliche, Oblique - Cliche also played in the game last night, but left early in the 3rd. According to Roy, it's an oblique injury, and he's expected to miss 1-2 weeks. He has 1 goal and 3 points on the season.
Defensemen:
Ryan Wilson (LTIR), Shoulder - After spending most of last season injured, Wilson played 3 games for the Avs this season. After getting hit in the head with a puck against Boston, he missed 3 games before returning against the Panthers on October 21st. During that game, he suffered a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery. He has likely played his last game in Denver.
Brad Stuart (IR), Hamstring - During the November 4th game against Vancouver, Stuart injured his hamstring early in the 2nd period. He may be back mid-December, but that's the best case scenario. He's played 14 games this season.
Goalies:
Semyon Varlamov (IR), Groin - Sometime during or after the Avs' game in Toronto on October 14th, Varlamov suffered a minor groin strain. He missed three games before returning on October 24th. However, after the Devils game on November 15th, he aggravated his injury and was officially placed on the IR on November 26th. He is expected to play in Calgary on Thursday.
Other Notes:
- Tomas Vincour only had one shift in the 2nd period last night. It's possible he suffered a minor injury, but Roy confirmed that he will be back in the lineup for Monday's game.
- Heading into the Stars game, the Avs were at 98 man-games lost to injury.
