More Heinous Injury Reports, Carey and Picks Re-Recalled

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

The good times keep on rollin' in the Mile High City. Today, Semyon Varlamov's groin is reportedly flaring up yet again and he will be unable to start against the Perds tomorrow night. Calvin Pickard has been recalled for the 3rd time this season to bear the weight of Avalanche fans' hopes for who knows how long.

Rumors yesterday that one of the many stricken Avs forwards would be ready to play were premature. With Mike Sgarbossa sent down Saturday and Tomas Vincour on Sunday, the team is a few beers short of a case currently. Paul Carey, who scored 2 goals yesterday in a fabulous Lake Erie win against powerhouse Rockford, is also on his way to Denver to help out. Even so the Avs will only dress 19 for the game for whatever reasons.

Some updates from the coach: Smooth Johnny Mitchell, Brad Stuart and Marc-Andre Cliche look to be around 10 days to 2 weeks away from returning. Patrick Bordeleau and Dennis Everberg are 3-4 weeks away from playing, although Everberg might be closer if he can get some strength back in his shoulder somehow. Ben Street was once again ignored

tl;dr - Varly hurt - Carey, Picks back in Colorado - nobody's even close to returning - Holden will be a forward for a long time
