Omark is heading to Europe?
The Buffalo Sabres released forward Linus Omark by terminating his contract, in a move that frees the Swedish-born player to pursue his career in Europe.
The Sabres announced the move once Omark went unclaimed Tuesday, a day after being placed on unconditional waivers. The team’s decision to cut ties with Omark came a little more than a week after the player declined to report to Buffalo’s AHL affiliate in Rochester.
Omark’s agent, Kevin Epp, said in an email to The Associated Press that his client is travelling to Europe, though it’s not yet clear where he will be playing.
The Oilers are getting a new playground.
“It will be an iconic and beautiful building that, like great hockey players, makes everything around it better.”
Reaching the maximum price that Mr. Katz and the city approved last May was the final hurdle before work on the long-debated project can start next month with site preparation and groundbreaking.
He spoke in front of a backdrop of hockey boards erected at City Hall, topped by glass with logos for the Oilers, the Rogers Place arena and the city, and flanked by drawings of the oil-drop shaped structure.
The guaranteed price represents the total cost to be incurred by PCL Construction and contractors, who will cover any increases unless they’re the result of changes requested by the city or Mr. Katz.
