Tanguay to have surgery, out for season

While it's not a surprise, it certainly hurts.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Avalanche are reporting that Alex Tanguay will have hip surgery, putting him out of the line up for the remainder of the season. Back on November 2, 2013, Tangs suffered knee and hip injuries in a game against the Montreal Canadiens. After a 36-game absence, he returned on January 24th for a short, three-game run before re-injuring his knee. Tanguay had 11 points (4g, 7a) in 16 games this season.

Losing Tangs may have made a trade involving P.A. Parenteau unlikely. In fact, a trade to bring in another winger may be on the horizon. One thing is for sure, losing Tanguay will hurt the Avs' offense.
