The Colorado Avalanche: News from around the NHL - February 27th, 2014

New, comments

Nate's great and [redacted] is still an ass.

This article was linked yesterday by ljp78, but it deserved a more prominent placing. Did you know that Avs fans aren't the only ones noticing how ridiculously good Nathan MacKinnon is?

At this point I don’t think that Sakic or anyone else involved in the decision-making process is losing any sleep over the decision. We’re 60 games or so into what’ll hopefully wind up being long and eventful careers for the both of them, and it sure looks like Colorado will enjoy the Nathan MacKinnon Era.

There have been some developments in Steve Moore's case. Recall that we are only 10 days shy of 10 years since the incident occurred and ten days and 9 years since this lawsuit began.

First, when the case goes to trial, the NHL will be there to testify.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly are prepared to testify in September’s Steve Moore-Todd Bertuzzi trial, the Globe and Mail reports

Seems pretty cool, right? But hold on a minute. The NHL also refused to pay a disability settlement to Moore unless he drops the case against [redacted].

In order to receive the payment, Moore would have had to agree to a standard clause written into the disability agreement to waive any litigation against the NHL and it's member hockey clubs.

Moore asked NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly in 2008 if that clause could be removed, according to the new court documents, arguing it was "not drafted to cover circumstances such as those herein."
