Marc-Andre Cliche signs 2 year extension

New, comments

Avs' 4th line center has signed a 2 year extension for a total of $1.4mil.

Doug Pensinger

Coming up on the trade deadline, the Avs have done... something. They've signed a hard working guy to an extension.

M.A. Cliche has played in 53 games this year. He's run primarily 4th line minutes, with only a couple stints on the 3rd when we were super injured. He has 1 goal on the year and 5 assists for 6 points. I also like the fact that he only has 17 penalty minutes all year, including 1 major. Ill take that any day. His face off percentage, tho, could be a bit better, at 44.8% (I couldn't help but throw that one out there... If theres one axe for me to grind with the guy, its his FO%).

He's making a fair bit more money with this next contract, too: a raise from $550,000/yr to $700,000/yr (according to Capgeek). Not bad for a guy who's the forward with the leading short handed time on ice, and third on the team behind Hejda and Guenin.

A quote from the Avs' press release:

"Marc-Andre has been a solid addition to our hockey club," said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. "He has done a tremendous job on the penalty kill, has a great work ethic and we’re excited to have him under contract for the next two years."

So, Avs faithful, what say you about this move? Good move? Bad move? Meh?
