From the Monsters Desk: Rampage in San Antonio

David Maxwell

The beloved Monsters take on San Antonio tonight, kicking off a 4-game week and the Wild West portion of the road trip from hell. LEM dropped 2 games at home to the Rampage in early February.

Last weekend was less than stellar for the boys in burgundy with a regulation loss to Milwaukee (recap here) and a second late blown lead + shootout loss in a row to the Chicago Wolves (recap here).

On the injury report, Markus Lauridsen returned to the lineup Friday night and had 1G/1A in his first period back. Matt Hunwick was out for both games with UBI and no word on his status for this weekend. Brett Clark was scratched on Sunday but did not appear on the injured list.

Luke Moffatt was released from his ATO contract on Sunday without playing a game. Many ways to look at this, but we'll see this summer whether he continues with the Avs organization.

Mason Geertsen, the Avs 4th round selection in last years' draft joined the team on an ATO Sunday. He's a big defenseman that looked great in training camp and had a good year playing for Vancouver of the WHL.

Spencer Martin, the Avs 3rd round pick last summer, joined the team yesterday in San Antonio on an ATO. Don't let his inflated numbers in Mississauga fool you, he's a good goalie prospect and has been working with LEM goalie coach Jean-Ian Filiatrault all season.

Chris Bigras will have surgery on a golfball sized goiter on his ankle and thus will not be hooking up with Lake Erie this year.

Kyle Hope, Bigras' teammate in Owen Sound, was also signed to an ATO yesterday. The 6'2 197# LW had 24G/24A and 99 PIMs for the Attack this year.

Geertsen will wear #40, Martin #32 and Hope #26. I think it's entirely possible we see all 3 of these fellows this weekend. With the 3-in-3, Martin could have a shot at starting in goal in one of the games, and I know the Avs were really excited about Geertsen after camp, so with Hunwick out it's a good chance he plays.
