Lots of folks scratched their heads when the Avalanche acquired Nate Guenin, especially considering how weak the defense was. Another 6th or 7th d-man was the last thing the Avs needed. Head scratching turned into utter confusion and/or anger when the guy was given an extension barely halfway through the season. Fans waited to see if Guenin would prove worthy of the contract. They're still waiting.

Steve: I don't mind him on the PK. At evens? LEARN TO MAKE AN OUTLET PASS.
c6hor8: He was forced into a tough spot with injuries, but he played well as a PK/3rd pairing guy.
Sandie: The plus is due to his wicked flow... unfortunately his play is not as wicked as his hair.
mfured20: I like Nate Guenin ok. As long as he's bottom pairing, or as a fill-in for an injury. He did his job fine, especially in a PK role. If he could figure out how to translate that game to the rest of his play, he's going to be much better.
Mike: 1st Unit PK'er, 3rd in blocked shots. Also infuriating with weak or otherwise poor clearing attempts. He is what he is: Average.

Steve: one of the worst offenders for getting pinned in our own zone. turnover-matic 5000.
c6hor8: Played fine in his role.
mfured20: While he had a couple bad games, he made up for a lot of it by having some really good performances. But it wasn't quite enough, tho, and he didn't fill me with confidence as he played.
Mike: Man did some work on the PK. The unit as a whole rose from the mid 20's to #5 in the post-season due in no small part to Nate. Pretty good showing for a bottom pair guy.
Cheryl: He was awesome in those first two games. Getting physical, bringing that grit. But then that guy who sucked at handling the puck came back, and le sigh.
Preaseason Thoughts
Here's another guy whose name wasn't mentioned before the season started apart from, "Good depth signing. The Monsters could use him." The coaches saw something they liked, though, as he never saw a minute in the AHL. Interesting to note that the staff's grades for this guy were all over the board. He got Ds, he got Bs, and he got everything in between.
