Final Grades 2014: David van der Gulik, #14

VDG is one of those guys you love to have on your affiliate team as his transition for call-up duty is seamless.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

While he didn't play much, David van der Gulik did what he always does when he dons the Avalanche sweater: he got the job done. You'll never see van der Gulik score a ton or make highlight reel plays. What you will see, though, is a savvy veteran who can fill in when injuries hit the big club, and do so without being a liability.

Staff Comments:

mfured20: DVG was fine, for what he was.  I guess.  But if we have to call on his services again, we'll be in trouble.

Cheryl: Vandy gave us what we want from an AHL vet, filling in on spot duty. His future is uncertain with the Avs as he's a UFA that's so far gone unsigned. While I'd love to see him stay with the team (both for sentimental reasons and because he's the perfect guy for the bottom 6 in an emergency), we may need the space for some kids.
