Final Grades 2014: Patrick Bordeleau, #58

Bordy's role changed a bit this season as fighting wasn't his only job.

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Patrick Bordeleau joined the Avalanche with one basic job: enforcer. He was meant to be that deterrent from cheap shots being taken at the young stars of the team. But something happened along the way—a mangled hand or directive from the coach or both—that limited his fighting majors to just six, the least he's had in a season for 10 years. In response, Bordy improved his play and skating and used a superb hockey sense to drive a hard forecheck and give the top lines some much needed rest. While still a fourth-liner at heart, he provided a more well-rounded game than one would expect, even chipping in offensively now and then.

c6hor8: Incredible season by Bordy. He was a threat to the defenseman in a lot of games who didn't want to endure his hits. He was used well and it paid off.

Mike: Dead last in TOI among the regulars.  2nd in PIMS.  First in hits (a few less than good).  That's a weird dichotomy. 11pts in 82 games.  He's steady though.

Cheryl: I was actually quite impressed by Bordy this season. I really had no idea he had such good vision on the ice. It really sucks that he doesn't have the natural skill to go along with it.

c6hor8: Did a good job keeping his play level headed and physical.

mfured20: Bordy isn't a guy I'm looking to to save the day.  He's the guy that I want to hit people sometimes, and not cough up the puck in the neutral zone.  He was ok in that role.

Mike: Wasn't a detriment to the team, but didn't appear to be willing to elevate his physical play either (1 more hit that Stastny).
