NHL draft order 2014: Avalanche has 7 total picks

Guess this is what a winning season feels like. Today's draft will be the second time in five years of first round picks in which the Avs have drafted outside of the top three. (2010 was Joey Hishon at 17th overall; 2012's first rounder was included in the Semyon Varlamov trade). While tanking hurt, we garnered three amazing players that have already become the foundation of the Colorado Avalanche. Still, it's kinda cool to have rocked a watch party at the Pepsi Center in April instead of rocking a huge draft party there now. (MHH is still having one!)

The Avs hold the 23rd overall pick (first round), 84th overall pick (third round), 93rd and 114th overall picks (fourth round), 144th overall pick (fifth round), 174th overall pick (sixth round), and 204th overall pick (seventh round). All told, there are seven Avalanche picks out of a total of 210.

One of the picks comes from the 2013 trade that sent Ryan O`Byrne to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Avs acquired the team's fourth round selection (93rd overall). Colorado gave up their second round pick (54th overall) to Calgary in the trade that brought RFA Reto Berra; the young goaltender was quickly signed to a three-year contract.

The draft takes place in Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Center; it's the first time Philly has hosted the NHL Draft. Tonight (Friday, June 27) will be the first round, starting at 7:00 pm ET (NBCSN, TSN, RDS). We'll see the remaining rounds tomorrow, with the first starting at 10 am ET (NHL Network).
