Final Grades 2014: Matt Hunwick, #22

Still has the feet, still needs the hockey IQ.

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Matt Hunwick's time with the Avalanche is surely coming to a close. He's been a trooper, a great teammate, a beautiful skater. He just hasn't been very good. He's had his moments, but moments aren't enough for the NHL. He's a UFA, now, and one wonders if a team will pick him up. It wouldn't be the first time that a former Av ended up playing in Europe, and it just may be that the larger sheet of ice would work in Hunwick's favor.

SteveHouse: he played a game so that was cool

Sandie: Seems like a nice Dude? Umm, that's all I've got.

mfured20: What's the quote? A twenty dollar hockey brain with a pair of million dollar skates? Still love his speed, but he would never cut it in Roy's man-to-man system.

Cheryl: I still think Hunwick is better than people give him credit for. Maybe that's because the Hunwick bashing started early and was not justified at the time. I hope he gets on another NHL team and does very well. I think only Peter Budaj ranks higher than him in the "Best Attitude" category for Avalanche team members, so he deserves some good will coming his way. I will surely miss watching him skate.
