Final Grades 2014: Max Talbot, #25

This guy never quits. On the forecheck, on the penalty kill, on the ice. Add in those intangibles, and the Avs got a top-of-the-line journeyman in Talbot.

Hannah Foslien

Max Talbot may not have been a prolific scorer, but his body of work with the Avalanche proved him to be a valuable asset to the team. He was relentless on the opposition, always forcing them to make the play when exiting out of the d-zone or setting up the power play. He was also a great influence off the ice. More than one player mentioned his name when talking about veteran leadership. He's signed with the Avs for two more years at extremely cap-friendly hits, making him a cog in the wheel that will help see this team contend again.

SteveHouse: It took him a while to get in and adjusted, and he's a guy who turns it on more for the playoffs anyway. Good veteran add. Not a great player who had a not great season, but a C seems unfairly low to me.

c6hor8: He was good and was getting better as the season went on. With injuries he was tasked above his skill level but I was happy with his play.

Sandie: Love this guy. Honestly I think a lot of what he brings *isn't* on the ice. It's off ice, showing the rookies and young players the ropes and calming their asses down.

Mike: Another to PK who just. Did. Work. All season. So happy to have him on the team and in the room with the young guys. Unit as a whole needs to improve, but he isn't why.

c6hor8: Little impact.

Mike: He and Cliche were the anchors on the PK. He threatened to score short-handed a couple of times and while his dive was hilarious, it wasn't rewarded.

Cheryl: I had hoped his veteraniness would have helped propel the team a bit more with the loss of Duchene and then, subsequently, Barrie. I don't mean through his talent, but through his intensity and experience. He did okay and at times was that person. He also wasn't the reason the Avs were ousted. Still, I hoped for more.
