Open Thread: MHH Week in Review 7/12/14

Jeff Zelevansky

Another week down, another week closer to actual hockey happening. Subjects on the minds of the MHH faithful ranged from contentious to hopeful, some highlights:

- This wasn't news to anyone, but there doesn't appear to be any impetus to discuss a new contract for Ryan O'Reilly by either side. I also suspect that this cluster is holding up signings to our other RFA players, most importantly Tyson Barrie but also Joey Hishon, Stefan Elliott, Karl Stollery and Paul Carey. Thoughts now turn to how we dispose of the problem. Yay.

- The Avs had their prospect conditioning camp this week. Video interviews are up on the Avs site with a few of our future stars, if you've missed them, Chris Bigras, Kyle Wood, Will Butcher and Cody Corbett can all be found here.

- The AHL announced some interesting rule changes this week, particularly concerning how overtime is played. Two extra minutes, two fewer players, should be fun. Could be a raw version of how the NHL switches things up in the future. Press release

- Also coming out of the AHL meetings, a re-alignment of the divisions with our beloved Monsters transferring into the Midwest division, joining the farm teams for St Louis, Chicago, detroit and Nashville.
