The Bruins have announced that Joe Sacco has a found a home with them.

Sure, Joe Sacco is happy to be coming home to Boston. But the biggest draw for the Medford native who was hired yesterday as an assistant coach with the Bruins is the job itself.

“It’s exciting and obviously, from a family standpoint, we’re thrilled to be back. But I said this to Claude (Julien) when we were talking and I also mentioned it to Peter (Chiarelli) — to me, it’s just an added bonus,” Sacco said yesterday on a conference call. “There are so many things that are attractive about coming back . . . with the organization and the structure that they have in place, and with the current team and the success.”

Sacco, a star player at Medford High and then Boston University, is filling the vacancy created by the departure of Geoff Ward, who took the head coaching job with Mannheim in Germany. Ward’s responsibilities included extra-man situations, but Julien said he has not decided how he’ll divvy up the chores to the staff, which also includes Doug Houda and Doug Jarvis.
