Greatest Moment of 2013-14 Round 1: Foote’s retirement vs. Roy does the Dater face

The final match up for Round 1 pits two Avalanche greats against each other.

Foote’s Retirement (8)

We saw a lot of great moments with Adam Foote over the years, moments that didn't stop when he decided to hang up the skates. His final shift in an Avalanche sweater was arguably the best last shift in franchise history, and his retirement speech was epic. I mean, can you really top a speech in which the man of honor says, "I'd like to thank you fans for the energy you gave us, especially when we kicked Detroit's ass"? I dare say you can't. The entire ceremony was filled with smiles and cheers, chills and tears as we paid tribute to the man, the myth, the legend.

Roy Does the Dater Face (9)

Patrick Roy gives epic press conferences. He makes silly jokes, he gives crass but beautiful analogies, and he reacts to questions authentically, producing some of the most hilarious facial expressions in Avalanche coaching history. One of those expressions became a meme and was affectionately dubbed the "Dater Face" as it came after Denver Post beat reporter Adrian Dater had asked a question that seem to perplex Roy. Now, whenever we see that look of confusion, we can't help but call it the Dater Face. This reaction is not limited to pressers and interviews, though. Sometimes our fearless leader breaks it out during games, none being more popular than this one.
