Avalanche Extend Brad Stuart, Cody McLeod

Two question marks going into this season have been extended for a while.

The Colorado Avalanche have announced that the team has extended Cody McLeod through the 2017-18 season and Brad Stuart through to 2016-17.

Not much you can say about Brad Stuart. Before donning the burgundy and blue for the first time in a real game, he's been re-upped with another 2 years at $3.6M per. Stuart will be 37 at it's conclusion.

What this might say about Jan Hejda's continued tenure with the team or Chris Bigras' chances at cracking the roster in the foreseeable future is up for debate. So go for it.

Joe Sakic summed up McLeod's extension well: "Cody has been an Avalanche his entire career. He brings grit, energy and passion to the rink every single day." Many people will be unhappy about this as they feel McLeod's play has slipped and will only get worse as time goes on. However, as Sakic's words fully inidicate, McLeod's contributions go beyond what one sees in games, and all fans know how much the Avs value that work ethic.

Pierre LeBrun has the McLeod extension at $1.5M, $1.25M, $1.25M

McLeod's signing does make it that much more difficult for guys in Lake Erie to make the roster in the coming years, though.
