Avalanche Recall Freddie Hamilton

The Avalanche called up newly-acquired forward Freddie Hamilton.

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

With the news that Nathan MacKinnon will be missing the remainder of the season with a broken foot, the Avalanche called up recently-acquired Freddie Hamilton from the Lake Erie Monsters.

Hamilton, traded to the Avalanche from the San Jose Sharks just before the trade deadline last week in exchange for Karl Stollery, appeared in 2 games for the Monsters, accumulating 1 assist and 1 SOG. Known more for his defensive prowess, Hamilton is likely to see time on the bottom 6 during his tenure with the Avalanche as the team assesses exactly what kind of future he has with the team as the 23-year-old is a restricted free agent this summer.

For those who care about that sort of thing, Hamilton wore #12 with the Monsters and the Worcester Sharks. With that number already taken on the Avalanche, he will be forced to leave his comfort zone. I will note that he also wore 75 during his time in the Sharks organization.

Update: According to the Avalanche Roster page Hamilton will wear #13 for the Avs.  He joins Valeri Kamensky and Dan Hinote as the third player to wear that number for the Avalanche.
