Jets @ Avalanche: Last Chance to Ground the Jets

The Jets (42-26-12) take on the Avalanche (37-31-12) in a chance to claim a playoff berth.

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

With two games to go, the Avs' spoiler role continues against the Winnipeg Jets Thursday night. After injuring the Predators chance at winning the Central division Tuesday, the Avs will look to keep the Jets from clinching their first playoff berth since moving to Winnipeg. The Jets need just two points in their final two games or a LA loss to clinch that elusive berth. We'll see if the Western Conference gets closed up Thursday or if all the playoff questions will have to wait to get answered Saturday.

NOTES

- Joey Hishon played his best game as an Avalanche against the Predators Tuesday, showing flashes of why the Avs drafted him in the first round in 2010. After fighting injuries for several years, his first goal and game winner had to be a feel good moment for the young center, and may lead to a new contract for the restricted free agent.

- It's possible the Avs will have a call-up in the line-up Thursday if Dennis Everberg is still unable to play after injuring his shoulder against the Predators Tuesday.

- The Last time that Winnipeg had a team in the NHL playoffs was in 1996. The former Jets lost in the first round that year to the Red Wings and the Avalanche went on to win the cup in their first year in Colorado.
