Details are slim at the moment, but AM980 in Ontario is breaking a story that Ryan O'Reilly crashed a truck into a Tim Horton's restaurant in Middlesex, Ontario shortly after 4:00 AM early on Thursday morning and subsequently abandoned the vehicle. Police have charged the 24-year old Buffalo Sabres centerman with Impaired Driving and Failure to Remain at the Scene.
O'Reilly was traded last month from the Colorado Avalanche in a blockbuster deal, also involving forward Jamie McGinn, for prospects Nikita Zadarov, Mikhail Grigorenko, and JT Compher (along withe the 31st overall pick in this year's draft). The trade was the culmination of a long series of contract disputes with the Avalanche, featuring a hold-out, an offer sheet from Calgary, and interminable speculation in the media on behalf of both side. After completing the trade, Buffalo extended O'Reilly's contract for seven more years at 7.5 million dollars per year.
